The slick and loose half ponytail
For evermore stylish hair, play around with gender, era and texture. This season, long hair has conquered the catwalks and inspired hair stylists. Here’s a half ponytail with a twist to get you to stop thinking that straight hair makes you look too sweet and innocent!
The inspiration. At Giambattista Valli they’ve paid tribute to the seventies by transforming this hairstyle into a very modern context. Think ultra-sleek styles from the 70s meet the ultra-trendy tomboy wet look. Result: this highly structured, (slick) but not fixed (loose), revamped half ponytail.
How to create the slick and loose half ponytail. It all starts with straight hair. Apply a heat protector spray to your hair then blow-dry before using your straighteners. The lengths need to be ultra-straight and your hair nice and shiny. Separate the hair at the top of your head from the rest of your hair. This is what you will use to create your half ponytail. Then create a side parting. To get your half ponytail looking slick, use a gel. This will also give it that trendy wet-look effect. Use a fine-toothed comb to apply and pull the hair back on one side, giving it a nice rounded shape. Do the same with the thin section of hair on the other side of your parting. Tie the ends of your half ponytail behind your head. Finally, spray hairspray onto a comb and style your lengths to tame any difficult frizz.
